Delta Epsilon, Tau Beta Sigma

Hello NCD Family!!

Delta Epsilon was excited and honored to have the chance to be this month’s chapter spotlight! As you can tell we have several exciting upcoming events and we would love for all our sisters to join us! We would love to tell you about a few of our past and upcoming events.

Delta Epsilon entered spring semester ready to serve. On Martin Luther King Jr. Day several sisters of Delta Epsilon traveled to Middletown, OH to work at the Hope House, a homeless shelter and donation collection center.  We spent 3 hours assessing and organizing donated items: who knew there were so many styles of winter coats!  On January 31st we helped the Oxford Community Arts Center sand, tape, prime, and paint over 100 feet of entry hallway(Tau Beta Painting) .  It looks so fresh and inviting and they are anxious to show it off during their next exhibit opening.

On the membership side we have a class of 9 membership candidates which have begun their process, having weekly meetings and studying for tests, and anxiously await their class overnight where they will decide their class name.  They went through the ritual of 1st Degree on January 20th in the presence of our chapter and our lovely visiting sisters from Gamma Mu.  Our 2nd Degree will be on February 11, 2010 at 10pm in Western Lodge.  We are excited to share more traditions and secrets with them and would love for you to join us!

On the horizon, is a fundraising event that our chapter takes great pride in called Valentunes.  Delta Epsilon spends countless hours throughout most of the year preparing for this local benefit concert that features talented acts from across our campus. Valentunes has its own Production Team which this year is headed up by our sister Amy Norrod.  Within the production team there are committees that specialize in decorations, logistics, communications, and publicity that help keep the concert running smoothly. Decorations beautifies the stage and lobby in true Valentine’s fashion, logistics runs everything behind the scenes during the concert, communications lines up all of the acts to perform, and publicity is in charge of advertising with posters and displays. This year’s acts include but are not limited to:

The Cheezies, Remnants, Misfitz, Mergers, and (Miami’s 4 talented a capella groups)

Honest Lyres (Miami’s new Delta Omicron a capella group)
Tau Beta Sigma Dancers (the lovely ladies of Delta Epsilon)
Kappa Kappa Psi Step Team
The Brothers of Phi Mu Alpha
Steel Drum Combo
Miami Jazz Ensemble
Molly Pesarchick (our talented singing sister)
Miami Swing Syndicate (Miami’s swing dance club)

All proceeds of the concert benefit the Mr. Holland’s Opus Foundation, which helps to provide support to struggling high school music programs by funding new and refurbished instruments and repairs on existing instruments.  Over the past few years, we were able to donate over $4,000 to help support possible future sister and will continue to show our support in the years to come.  Valentunes- Sweet Sounds for Charity will be held February 13th, 2010 from 8pm-10:30pm at Hall Auditorium. The tickets are $7.00, and you can get them at the MU Shriver Box Office (513)529-3200, online at www.tickets.muohio.edu, or at the door.  Bring a date or a sister to this charitable and entertaining holiday event!
