Hello NCD!

Greetings from the Epsilon Iota chapter at The University of Akron! In the interest of continuing member education (and this month’s Chapter Challenge) the sisters of EI have been planning a fun project that has already proved to be a blast for all involved. We have been creating a series of videos (directed by, produced by, and starring our chapter) that covers the material taught in our membership education classes. The videos are primarily going to be used to show the candidates visually (and quite humorously) the material for the next week’s quiz. This will hopefully help our new sisters better remember their candidacy process and the important things at the core of our organization as well as become an awesome part of our chapter’s history. By filming around campus, we show future EI sisters what our campus and our band program was like in 2009. So far, we have filmed and acted out the 5 Qualities and 8 Essential Factors.

Although this is a tool primarily for the candidates, it has proved to be very helpful in continuing education. By acting out the 8 and 5, for example, active members are given a fun refresher course in what is important about these ideals and makes them relatable to each individual sister. We’ve already had a blast making the videos and make each filming a mini-sisterhood event by sometimes going out to eat afterward. It really is a great bonding experience and a great way for us to work as a team, seeing each other come together to complete a task.

The video is only one component of a continuing education plan that we intend to implement next semester. We plan to hold a Ritual Time-Out, similar to that of District Convention, and more frequent Active vs. Candidate Jeopardy nights (which is pretty self-explanatory). The actives and candidates will face off in a game of Jeopardy that tests us on the material in the membership education process. Our goal is to make continuing membership education effective as well as fun for everyone involved. Thank you NCD! Merry Christmas!
